Olympic Athlete Visits LG!

On Tuesday 29th April 2014 the children of Little Gonerby School were very lucky as an Olympic Gymnast came to do an assembly. Rebecca Tunney showed us the sort of routines that she had to do when competing in London 2012. Mrs Anderson led an interview with Rebecca these are the things we found out.

How old are you?

What is your specialist sport?

What age did you start gymnastics?

How did you get selected to compete in London 2012?

I had to perform routines in front of the British coaches and then waited a few weeks for them to select the best gymnasts.

Where were you when you found out that you were going to be competing in London 2012?

I was at school; I missed the call from the coaches because I was in a PE lesson.

How often do you train?

5 times a week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

The children even had the opportunity to ask question these are the questions they asked.

How do you learn to twirl in the air?

You have to practice jumping on a trampoline and then when you can jump high enough you twirl in the air.

How do you make sure you don’t hurt yourself?

There are crash mats like sponge around the apparatus so if you do fall you will land on something soft.
