Term 1

Our essential question this term is 'Where will your imagination take you?' and we will be looking at some of the work of Roald Dahl.

Our hook this term is a very special invitation! We have all been invited to a birthday party to celebrate the 100th birthday of Roald Dahl!

BOY- We began the term by looking at the story of Boy, which is based on Roald Dahl's own life as he was growing up. We read extracts from the story and thought about how his life would have been different and similar to ours.

BFG - We had a very exciting trip to the cinema to watch the film. From this, we were able to do lots of work based on the BFG's character, our dreams, words that the BFG might have used and we even made our own dream catchers!

The Enormous Crocodile - We read the story but when we got towards the end of the book we found that the ending was missing! We decided that we would write our own endings. We wrote endings in small groups and then all came together to write our own class ending. We then adapted this to make it in to a play script which we then performed to our families. It was amazing!

George's Marvellous Medicine - After reading the story, we wanted to make our own marvellous medicines. We thought about what our medicine would be used for and then we wrote a recipe for what might go in it. We then made our medicines and designed a label to go on it. We put our recipes into our class potions book.

James and the Giant Peach - We read this story and then looked at what a peach is like, doing an observational drawing and also looking at the life cycle of a peach. We made some different recipes which used peaches so that we could taste them in different ways. We then chose our own recipes to adapt and write up and made our very own peach recipe book which we the sold at school and at Asda!

Dirty Beasts - We looked at some of the poems based on Dirty Beasts and then designed our own.
